Tentative start date Fall 2026 pending SACSCOC approval

The Veterinary Technology Program is a comprehensive, full-time, two-year program. The Associate of Applied Science degree in Veterinary Technology equips graduates with the knowledge, skills, and experience necessary for a rewarding career in many veterinary settings.

Upon completion of the AAS degree, students will then be eligible to sit for the Veterinary Technician National Exam (VTNE) and the Texas Jurisprudence Exam (LVTE). Once licensure is approved by the Texas Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners, graduates become registered licensed veterinary Technicians (LVT).

The Veterinary Technology Program at Howard College is launching their first cohort in the Fall of 2026 and will be applying for Initial Accreditation by the AVMA-CVTEA (American Veterinary Medical Association - Committee on Veterinary Technician Education and Activities®) accrediting board.

Criminal Background Investigation

Students applying for the Veterinary Technology Program must clear a criminal background check before being considered for acceptance. Applicants unable to clear may request a criminal history evaluation conducted by the Texas Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners to determine eligibility for licensure. It is recommended that students request this evaluation well in advance of applying for the program as it can take several months or longer to complete. More information is available at: https://veterinary.texas.gov/licensing/requirements/criminal-history-and-fingerprinting/
