Cosmetology, Certificate Level I

The Cosmetology Operator Program is 30 credit hours as prescribed by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) and the State Legislature. NOTE: A criminal background clearance may be required before acceptance into any cosmetology program.

Students taking classes will receive a Certification in Cosmetology. Students must take and pass the exam given by the TEXAS DEPARTMENT OF LICENSING AND REGULATIONS to get their license. A license issued by the state of Texas is required before a student can work in the field of Cosmetology.

NOTICE OF POTENTIAL INELIGIBILITY FOR LICENSE

In some cases, TDLR (Texas Department of License and Regulation), according to Texas Law, restricts the issuance of a license based on the applicant’s criminal history.

All applicants are issued a form, and it is up to the applicant to follow through if there is a question about his or her criminal history.

Cosmetology instructors can help applicants with forms that need to be filled in and sent to TDLR. This information will be kept private between applicant and TDLR.

First Semester

CSME 1401 - Orientation to Cosmetology 4 semester hours
CSME 1447 - Principles of Skin Care / Facials and Related Theory 4 semester hours
CSME 1443 - Manicuring and Related Theory 4 semester hours
CSME 1453 - Chemical Reformation and Related Theory 4 semester hours

Total: 16 Hours

Second Semester

CSME 2401 - The Principles of Hair Coloring and Related Theory 4 semester hours
CSME 2310 - Advanced Haircutting and Related Theory 3 semester hours
CSME 2441 - Preparation for State Licensing Examination 4 semester hours
CSME 1355 - Artistry of Hair Design II 3 semester hours

Total: 14 Hours

Total for First Year: 30 Hours

*In order to progress from one semester to another, students must earn a passing grade in each required course. Students who do not pass a course must enroll in the same course the next semester. Students will not earn clock hours until they attend class hours equal to the course(s) failed.
