Instructional Projects in the Community
|
|
|
Instructional projects for the college, community, and/or an individual may be completed based on instructional objectives for the class. Routine projects will be discussed with the instructional dean prior to the start of an academic year. Delivery of certain projects may be impacted by course sequences and/or the college academic calendar.
- A formal agreement must be in place before starting any community-based project which details the responsibilities of Howard College and the community partner. Agreements must be approved by the appropriate instructional dean, cabinet member, and the Chief Business Officer. An agreement may not be necessary for performing routine ongoing tasks associated with course objectives and/or program outcomes.
- Projects must be tied to a course and must reinforce the student learning outcomes of the course and/or program (both off-site and on-site projects). Note: Howard College liability insurance covers instruction delivered in a course.
- Requests from individual community members will be considered, but priority must be given to community-based projects.
- Projects requested by Howard College employees, or their family members, will be considered as any other request from the community and must follow college policies and procedures.
- Unless structured as a payment for the service (cosmetology, dental hygiene, etc.), equipment and supplies should be provided by a college department, community entity, and/or individual, and Howard College students will supply the labor.
- Howard College faculty and staff must follow purchasing procedures when proactively seeking community projects to complete (bids, RFPs, etc.).
- Unless otherwise specified, revenue generated from projects and/or the sale of equipment will be posted to the General Revenue Fund. Expenditure accounts may be allowed to go over budget up to the amount of revenue generated.
- Equipment donated to Howard College will be documented according to college policies and procedures for receiving donations.
- Equipment loaned to Howard College for instructional purposes will be returned promptly upon completion of the project.
